Safety in pesticide testing

The use of pesticides often leaves traces in our food. For that reason, European law stipulates annually changing monitoring programmes with a specific selection of foods and analysis parameters. The test spectrum also takes account of pesticides such as ethephon, chlormequat or glyphosate, which are not covered by standard multi-method analyses.

As part of their self-monitoring, it is helpful for food producers and sellers to take guidance from the results of these monitoring programmes published in annual reports. These help with assessing the risks of particular products and developing suitable analysis plans.

In her article in Lebensmittel-Technologie, issue 11/2012, Susanne Täuber provides an overview of suitable food-pesticide combinations.
