Training at the UFAG laboratories

We train apprentices

Apprenticeship training as laboratory technicians for the Swiss Certificate of Competence (EFZ)

Swiss Certificate of Competence (EFZ) laboratory technicians in the field of chemistry are responsible for the practical implementation of scientific investigations. They manufacture chemical substances or investigate these substances using analytical methods. UFAG LABORATORIEN primarily monitors the quality and composition of foodstuffs and pharmaceutical substances. We work primarily with glass apparatus and computer-supported analysis devices.

Training

The apprenticeship lasts three years. In practical training, the apprentices go through the various departments of the laboratory block by block. As part of the apprenticeships, you will experience the investigation of foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals using simple wet chemistry methods and the latest instrumental analysis techniques. The apprentices visit the vocational school in Lucerne for one and a half days a week. The training is demanding in regarding both theory and practical work. Upon successful completion, apprentices will receive the Swiss Certificate of Competence as a laboratory technician (EFZ). UFAG LABORTORIEN AG offers 2 apprenticeships annually.

Requirements

For laboratory technicians, the work requires an interest in scientific processes, in mathematical questions, pleasure in experimenting and the ability to work with computers and electronic devices. Important characteristics are the ability to work in a team, perseverance, patience and reliability.

Practical skills and technical expertise are also necessary. As well as good powers of observation, the ability to express yourself clearly both orally and in writing is of great importance for writing up protocols and for discussions within the team. Typically, the trainee comes from the secondary school and can demonstrate good to very good school grades in the subjects of mathematics and natural study; the English language is also of great importance.

Our requirements

Secondary school with grades of 4.5 (out of 6, satisfactory to good) in German, French and English and 5 (out of 6, good) in mathematics and the natural sciences. Visit us during our open days.

Open days

For anyone who is interested, we are carrying out two-day job taster days from January to March. We will release the dates for each one from arround mid-November the previous year. By using typical professional work in the laboratory, we are able to give greater insight into the work of laboratory technicians.
