The History of UFAG Laboratorien AG

UFAG AG Sursee was founded. The company manufactured specialised products for animal nutrition.

The company laboratory for quality control of the products was put into operation with three employees.

The first permission from the Intercantonal Board of Control (IKS) for the operation of a monitoring laboratory as part of the IKS Manufacturing Guidelines from the 13th of May 1982 was granted (comparable with the modern GMP compliance).

The company began performing contract analysis for external customers in parallel to its activities as a company laboratory. The range of services primarily comprises analytical testing in the sectors of foodstuffs, fodder and the environment.

The success of the analytics service means that the capacity of the laboratory has to be expanded. The newly built laboratory building at Kornfeldstrasse 4 in Sursee is opened with 30 members of staff.

First accreditation in accordance with the modern ISO/IEC 17025 standard (still the EN 45001 at the time) is obtained.

The company adopts the philosophy of Total Quality Management (TQM). The processes are described in a TQM manual.

The independent company UFAG Laboratorien AG was founded. The number of employees is 60. The range of services was expanded to incorporate pharmaceutical analysis.

The company is focused on two areas of business: FOODSTUFFS/AGROECOLOGY and PHARMACEUTICALS. The sectors of environmental analysis and soil monitoring were abandoned and sold off.

The first audit from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) was successfully passed.

The good development, particularly in the pharmaceuticals sector, means that a second extension to the premises is necessary. The number of employees has now grown to 86 people. The new laboratory building NORTH on the Kornfeldstrasse in Sursee was inaugurated.

Processes and organisation were restructured to satisfy the requirements of the market and the further increasing size of the company.

The southern laboratory building on Kornfeldstrasse 4 was refurbished and the number of floors was increased by two. 1000 m² New laboratory space was created. The number of employees reaches 110 people.
